Hemel Hempstead ( / ˌhɛməl ˈhɛmpstɪd /) is a town in the Dacorum district in Hertfordshire, England. It is 24 miles (39 km) northwest of London. The population at the 2021 census was 95,961. [1] Hemel Hempstead has existed since at least the 8th century and was granted its town charter by Henry VIII in 1539.

- Old Town. Although Hemel Hempstead ballooned as a New Town following the Second World War, it received its town charter from Henry VIII in 1539 and has a fine historic centre along its High Street.
