Henri-Edmond Cross was a master of Neo-Impressionism and a key figure in the second phase of that movement. He painted many landscapes, portraits, and still lifes in bright colors, influenced by Impressionism, Fauvism, and other artists. He co-founded the Société des Artistes Indépendants and met many Neo-Impressionist colleagues, such as Seurat, Signac, and Matisse.
