Apr 17, 2024 · Henry Knox (1750–1806) was a hero of the American Revolutionary War who rose to prominence as the commander of the artillery units in the Continental Army. Knox was a native of Boston, where he owned a bookstore and associated himself with the Sons of Liberty and the Patriot Cause.

Jun 27, 2018 · Known as the father of American army artillery, Henry Knox played a prominent role in most major battles during the American Revolution (1775–83) and became a close adviser and friend to General George Washington (1732–1799; see entry in volume 2) through the war years and during the following early period of the republic.
After the approval of the federal constitution and the inauguration of George Washington as the nation's first president, Knox entered Washington's cabinet as secretary of war, served from 1789 to 1794. Upon his retirement, he moved to an estate near Thomaston, Maine, and died there on October 21, 1806.
Feb 26, 2015 · Knox would go on to serve with distinction at the Battle of Trenton. Knox was commissioned a brigadier general in charge of all the American artillery for his performance at both Trenton and the subsequent victory at Princeton. Knox remained Chief of Artillery throughout the war.
Born in Boston, Knox enlisted in a local military company at the age of eighteen; eventually promoted to major general in the Continental Army, he took part in most of the major battles of the Revolutionary War, and became a close friend and advisor to George Washington.
