High Point, city, Guilford county, north-central North Carolina, U.S. It lies about 20 miles (32 km) southeast of Winston-Salem and 15 miles (25 km) southwest of Greensboro and with them forms a tri-city metropolitan area, the Piedmont Triad. Settled by Quakers about 1750, it was laid out in 1853.
High Point is North Carolina's only city that extends into four counties. As of the 2020 census the city had a total population of 114,059. High Point is the ninth-most populous in North Carolina, the third-largest municipality in the Piedmont Triad, and the 259th-most populous city in the U.S.
High Point is part of the Piedmont Triad in North Carolina. High Point is often referred to as the furniture capital of the world due not only to the large number of furniture manufactures in the area, but also because of the International Home Furnishings Markets held each spring and fall.
