Mauritius is the only African Union country where the world religion Hinduism is the dominant religion, with about 49% of the population as followers in 2011. Hinduism is the second largest religion in Réunion (6.7%) and Seychelles (2.4%).
Hinduism is a minority religion in Tanzania, practiced by some 30,000 people (1996) in the mainland and Zanzibar combined. Most practitioners are of Indo-Tanzanian (particularly Gujarati ) ancestry. There were about 50,000 Hindus in Tanzania in 2010, according to Pew Research Center estimates.
