Hitchhiking (also known as thumbing, autostop or hitching) is a means of transportation that is gained by asking individuals, usually strangers, for a ride in their car or other vehicle. The ride is usually, but not always, free.
- Be Confident. Always look drivers in the eye and smile as they pass. Not in a crazy ax-murderer way but in a friendly and personable way. Smiling is very important.
- Look Presentable. No one wants to pick up a lazy, stinky-looking hobo. Dress in light or bright clothes. Avoid wearing black if you can. Don’t wear sunglasses (people need to see your eyes), and keep your hands out of your pockets.
