- Climb to the top of South Stack Lighthouse. Located at the far tip of Holy Island, South Stack Lighthouse is one of the most iconic landmarks in Wales and the only lighthouse in Anglesey you can actually climb up inside to see how it works and enjoy stunning views of the Irish Sea and the rugged coastline.
- Explore the lake and trails at Holyhead Breakwater Country Park. Holyhead Breakwater Country Park is the site of the old quarry where all of the stone for Holyhead Breakwater was mined.
- Hit the beach at Treaddur Bay. One of my favourite parts of Holy Island is Treaddur Bay which is a picturesque seaside village where you’ll find one of Anglesey’s top beaches, making it the perfect place to relax and soak up the sun.
- Visit Trefignath Neolithic Burial Chamber. Not far from Treaddur Bay, you’ll find an ancient burial site believed to have been constructed around 3000 BC, during the Neolithic period.
Visit Ellin's Tower for great views of the seabird city in spring and its puffins, guillemots and razorbills. Try to spot porpoise, dolphins and seals out to sea. 4. Holyhead Breakwater Country Park. - 8. Ellin's Tower Visitor Centre Ellins Tower is part of the RSPB Reserve. In the spring and early summer it is a great place to watch the nesting seabirds on the cliffs. - Holyhead Maritime Museum. Situated just behind Newry Beach is the Holyhead Maritime Museum. Open from early April to the end of October; this is a place to step back in time in what is the oldest lifeboat station in Wales.
- Breakwater Country Park. Another worthwhile place to visit is the Breakwater Country Park, set just outside Holyhead, up a long drive off Beach Road. Once you’ve made your way up to the extensive car park, you’ll find a National Trust Information Centre (which often has several interesting exhibits) and yet another excellent café (Caffi’r Parc).
- South Stack Bird Reserve and Lighthouse. The world-famous South Stack should be high up on your list of things to do in Holyhead. As one of the best places to spot Anglesey’s puffins, around a dozen pairs of these comical birds return here every year to breed and feed their young between May and early August.
- Penrhos Country Park. Yet another excellent country park within a stone’s throw of Holyhead is Penrhos Country Park. There are plenty of walking trails here that either hug the coast or make their way through the dense woodland.
