Less a square than a boulevard, Wenceslas Square has the shape of a very long (750 m, total area 45,000 m 2) rectangle, in a northwest – southeast direction. The street slopes upward to the southeast side. At that end, the street is dominated by the grand neoclassical Czech National Museum.

Wenceslas Square looks more like a boulevard than a square. It is a very long rectangle measuring 2460 ft (750 meters) in length by 196 ft (60 meters) in width. The buildings that surround the square are mostly hotels, restaurants, bars and boutiques. Its most famous building is the Prague National Museum, which was opened to the public in 1890.
Anchored between houses and narrow alleyways in the centre of Prague, the Church of Our Lady before Týn is the most important Gothic -style architecture in Prague and a building full of history and magic. The temple is 170 ft (52 meters) long and 91 ft (28 meters) wide.
The Charles Square used to be the biggest square in Europe at that time, and it is still the largest square (4.63 ha) in Prague now. The square got its present name at the 19th century, before that it was called the Cattle Market for large markets selling not only cattle, but also firewood, coal or pickled herrings.
