Blackmail is a 1929 British thriller [3] directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Anny Ondra, John Longden, and Cyril Ritchard. Based on the 1928 play of the same name by Charles Bennett, [1] [4] the film is about a London woman who is blackmailed after killing a man who tries to rape her.

Jul 19, 2017 · That said, I have to admit that I preferred the recorded score for the sound version (by Hubert Bath and Harry Stafford) to the newly commissioned score for the silent version by Garth Knox. I found the latter to be overly busy and distracting, strenuously adding an Irish “flavour” at the expense of supporting the drama on screen.
