Hunter College High School is a public academic magnet secondary school located in the Carnegie Hill section of the Upper East Side of Manhattan. It is administered and funded by Hunter College of the City University of New York (CUNY) and no tuition is charged.
The application for entry into Hunter College High School (HCHS) for entry in Fall 2024 is now closed. Applications for 7 th grade entry in Fall 2025 are projected to open again in Fall 2024. Important Documents
High School Academics. The heart of the Hunter College High School experience is the extraordinary sequence of academic courses taken by students in grades 7-12. Each academic department has created an overview of their program here, including co-curricular opportunities sponsored by the department.
Hunter College High School, administered by the City University of New York, is a highly successful, very selective school that prepares its students for the country's most elite colleges. It's known particularly for its strength in the humanities, but it also offers high-level math and science courses.

A select number of test takers with the top scores on the multiple-choice sections of the exam will have their Writing Assignments read and scored by a panel of evaluators. Approximately 185 students who write the most impressive essays will be offered admission to the HCHS Class of 2030.
