Imtiaz Dharker (born 31 January 1954) is a Pakistan-born British poet, artist, and video film maker. She won the Queen's Gold Medal for her English poetry [1] [2] and was appointed Chancellor of Newcastle University from January 2020.

Imtiaz Dharker is a leading figure in British and international poetry, art and film. She has won the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry, the Cholmondeley Award and an Honorary Doctorate from SOAS, and is the Chancellor of Newcastle University. She has also created a series of projects across art forms in India, UK and US, and has been Poet in Residence at Cambridge University Library.
Imtiaz Dharker is a Scottish Muslim Calvinist poet and artist who explores her 'real country' through her poetry and drawings. She has seven poetry collections, including Purdah, Postcards from god, I speak for the devil and The terrorist at my table. She also works as a documentary film-maker in India and is an artist with solo exhibitions in the UK, India and Hong Kong.
