Never one to follow another's lead, Amerie's latest album, In Love & War, is an aggressive mix of trunk rattling hip-hop, raw soul reminiscent of James Brown, and classic Zeppelin-era rock `n roll. The three-time Grammy nominated singer managed to turn the tumultuous times of her past relationships into a moving collection of songs which will resonate with anyone who has ever been on the wrong side of love.
Amerie's fourth album "In Love and War" is a solid album that probably sounds more refreshing now than when it was originally released in 2009. Though there isn't any songs that would top any of her previous hits ("Why Don't We Fall In Love", "1-thing"), as a whole the album flows nicely from one song into the next without any really skippable tracks up into the last song "Dear John" which is a nothing-special ballad.
In Love & War is the fourth studio album by American singer Amerie, released November 3, 2009 on Def Jam Recordings. A follow-up single only grazed the Hip-Hop/R&B chart. Released in 2007, the adventurous Because I Love It, the singer's next album -- and, ironically, best work -- wasn't even issued in the U.S., possibly because its lead single slid off the chart within two weeks. Now on Def Jam, Amerie returns with In Love & War, an album that is much more creative than its title indicates while also playing out a bit like Because I Love It redux.
