Jun 4, 1999 · A film about a man who lived with gorillas in the jungle and a psychiatrist who tries to help him, Instinct is a movie with four themes: nature, prison reform, father-daughter relationship, and animal rights. The film has Hopkins as a Hannibal Lecter-like character, Gooding as a naive student, and Sutherland as a sage, but the plot is clumsy and the ending is unsatisfying.
Theo Caulder (Cuba Gooding, Jr.) is a psychiatrist who wants to take up the task of trying to get Dr. Powell to speak again and maybe even stand judgment at a trial for his release from prison on mental causes. Along the way, Dr. Caulder has to deal with also helping the mental patients that are being abused and neglected.
