  7. Ira Steven Behr is a writer, producer and Star Trek alumnus. He was born in New York City in 1953 and studied Mass Communications and Theater at Lehman College and Brandeis University. He wrote and produced comedy shows for TV and film, such as Bret Maverick, Fame and The Bronx Zoo. He also co-wrote the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition and the Ferengi culture book. He joined Star Trek: The Next Generation as a producer in 1987 and became an executive producer in 1993.
