The Wrong Babysitter Three, 1pm Daphne Zuniga, Sean Gallagher. A woman begins to suspect her neighbour could be responsible for her daughter’s disappearance. Not reviewed. Whitney Māori TV, 8.30pm A documentary about the late singer Whitney Houston, featuring many of her well known songs. Much of the documentary looks at her turbulent marriage to fellow R&B singer Bobby Brown. Well worth watching for the insight it gives into what made Houston such a star, and the demons that haunted her. ★★★★ Hustlers Sky Premiere, 8.30pm Starring Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu. The 2008 global financial crisis didn’t just affect stock brokers – down-to-earth, heart-of-gold strippers felt the pinch, too. Here, a couple of strippers survive by targeting the GFC’s villains – bankers – drugging them and then stealing their credit cards. A better film than it sounds. ★★★ 27 Dresses TVNZ 2, 8.30pm Starring Katherine Heigel. Likeable romantic comedy elevated above mediocre only by the performance of Heigl,...

My Baby Gone Three, 1pm Starring Elisabeth Harnois, Anna Van Hooft. A woman fakes her pregnancy and plans to steal her neighbour's baby. Not reviewed Monsoon Sky Premiere, 8.30pm Starring Henry Golding, Parker Sawyers. Kit, a British Vietnamese man carrying his parents’ ashes, returns to the country they fled as boat people after the fall of Saigon some 30 years previously. While it’s more like a Vietnamese version of The Trip, sans Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, there is a romantic frisson when Kit falls for a visiting American, who’s the son of a Vietnam vet. Lightweight, but beautiful to watch. ★★★ Stormbreaker TVNZ Duke, 8.30pm Starring Alex Pettyfer, Bill Nighy. This junior James Bond jaunt is moderately entertaining, but may struggle to find an audience, as adults will find their attention drifting while younger viewers could have trouble identifying with the impossibly good-looking 14-year-old hero. ★★

Sorority Secrets Three, 1pm Starring Brytnee Ratledge, Elisabetta Fantone. A student’s life is in danger when she discovers her new sorority is being used as a cover for an escort service. Not reviewed. Dragged Across Concrete Sky Premiere, 8.30pm Starring Mel Gibson, Vince Vaughn. An odd title, but it’s appropriate for this overly violent, humourless crime thriller. The two veteran leads play buddy cops who stray from the straight and narrow because of money troubles. Their plan to rob a crooked businessman goes somewhat awry when he robs a bank and takes hostages. In the mix is a man on parole (Tory Kittles) who’s initially a minor player in the bank robbery but slowly takes a pivotal role. Watchable, but relies on shock rather than awe. ★★

Killer Mom Three, 1pm Starring Kirby Bliss Blanton, Karen Cliche. A woman left penniless sets her sights on the money the daughter she gave up for adoption will inherit. Not reviewed. Danger Close Sky Premiere, 8.30pm Starring Travis Fimmel, James Nicholas. Fimmel, aka Vikings’ Ragnar Lothbrok, swaps longships and the icy North Sea for helicopters and a steamy jungle in this account of the Battle Of Long Tan in 1966 during the Vietnam War. Director Kriv Stenders details, without much in the way of historical context, the desperate fight for survival by an Australian unit cut off by Viet Cong troops who were supported by artillery and mortars. It’s a gripping, heroic tale, told from an Australian perspective, although in real life the outcome of the battle is regarded as indecisive in regards to any real damage inflicted on the Viet Cong. ★★★★

Top Of The Class Three, 1pm Starring Jacqueline Scislowski. A student becomes a murder suspect after she manipulates test scores to give her a higher grade. Not reviewed. 2 Fast 2 Furious Three, 7.30pm Starring Paul Walker, Eva Mendes. Unabashed motorheads might like this unsuccessful sequel to its racing action predecessor. More cars than storyline, this is the sort of movie that doesn’t seem to care about its obviously bad script – it’s already tapped its market anyway. Just make sure your teenager doesn’t go out and buy a Mitsubishi Evo on credit after viewing. ★★ The Nutty Professor Bravo, 7.30pm Starring Eddie Murphy, Jada Pinkett Smith. Eddie Murphy plays an obese, sweet-natured science teacher who transforms himself into a slimline, testosterone-pumped wiseass in this remake of the 1963 slapstick comedy. ★★★ Last Holiday Māori TV 8.30pm Starring Queen Latifah, LL Cool J. An uplifting and well-acted comedy starring Queen Latifah as a would-be chef who is diagnosed with a termi...
