In July 1454, the king died and was succeeded by Isabella’s older half-brother, Henry IV. The new king viewed his younger half-siblings as a threat to his power.
Isabella took strict measures in regulating crime bringing its rate to the lowest it had been in years. The couple established a centrally organized and efficient Holy Hermandad (Santa Hermandad) for Castile, Leon, and Asturias in 1476 and gave it great powers to regulate crime.
