He is the author of the poetry collections Scattered Poems (1971), published posthumously, and Mexico City Blues (1959), among others. Kerouac was a highly imaginative child who created a private world of racing stables and sports teams, then wrote his own newspapers to report their performances.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on March 12, 1922, Jack Kerouac, baptised Jean Louis Kirouac, was the youngest of three children of French-Canadian immigrants from Quebec, Canada. He was raised speaking the French-Canadian working class dialect Joual until he learned English at age five.
