Jacques Derrida (b. 1930–d. 2004) is a French thinker most often associated with what came to be known after him as deconstruction. In the 1960s he became world famous for his contestation of the metaphysics of presence, which he showed to have dominated Western thinking from Plato to Martin Heidegger and the French Structuralists.
