James Montgomery Doohan (/ ˈ d uː ə n /; March 3, 1920 – July 20, 2005) was a Canadian actor and author, best known for his role as Montgomery "Scotty" Scott in the television and film series Star Trek.

He was a war hero who served in World War II and suffered from chronic illnesses related to chemical exposures. His ashes were smuggled to the International Space Station by his family.
