On the other hand, Garamond’s superlative romans and italics, produced almost a century before Jannon’s, are not as widespread as Jannon’s work which bears his name.

It is the first known published reappearance of the type by Jean Jannon of Sedan for which matrices had been acquired by the Imprimerie Royale in 1641, and the first text to link it to the name of Garamont.
