Oct 13, 2023 · Jesse Evans was a notorious outlaw who rode with Billy the Kid in the Lincoln County war and became his rival. He was born in the early 50s in Missouri or Texas and was first arrested for counterfeit money. He formed his own gang, The Boys, and robbed and rustled cattle. He met Billy in 1877 and became his friend, but their relationship turned sour in 1878 when they clashed over the war. He was arrested for the murder of John Tunstall and sent to prison, where he broke out and vanished.
Jan 1, 2006 · Jesse Evans was found guilty of second-degree murder and sentenced to 10 years in the state prison at Huntsville Penitentiary. Arriving at Huntsville on December 1, 1880, Evans entered as prisoner #9078. Almost 18 months later, on May 23, 1882, Evans went over the wall and disappeared from history.
