[1] He has written for a wide variety of purposes, with a broad range of styles, including instrumental and vocal concert music, film and television scores, pop arrangements and works for dance. Joby Talbot was born in London in 1971. He studied composition privately with Brian Elias and at Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, before completing a Master of Music (Composition) at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under Simon Bainbridge. Joby Talbot began writing and performing in the early 90s, joining Neil Hannon in the UK pop phenomenon, The Divine Comedy. The successful partnership produced seven albums for The Divine Comedy, Ute Lemper's critical masterpiece, Punishing Kiss and a live collaboration with Michael Nyman, which was awarded the Edinburgh Festival's Critics Choice in 1997.
