  7. Both John Cale (born on December 3, 1940) and Terry Riley (born on June 24, 1935) were students of avant-garde composer LaMonte Young. Cale turned to rock with the Velvet Underground, but returned to his contemporary classical background in teaming up with Riley for their sole recorded collaboration, Church of Anthrax, in 1971.
