John Lockwood Kipling and Rudyard Kipling, c.1890. John Lockwood Kipling CIE (6 July 1837 – 26 January 1911) was an English art teacher, illustrator and museum curator who spent most of his career in India. He was the father of the author Rudyard Kipling.

However, John Lockwood Kipling’s career as designer and architectural sculptor, curator and educator, illustrator and journalist, has received little attention.
John Lockwood Kipling (1837-1911) is the father of Rudyard and Alice Kipling and husband to Alice MacDonald Kipling. He was born John Kipling and raised in Yorkshire, England, and was the son of a Methodist minister (Reverend Joseph Kipling).
