Julia Morgan (January 20, 1872 – February 2, 1957) was an American architect and engineer. [1] [2] She designed more than 700 buildings in California during a long and prolific career. [3] She is best known for her work on Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California .
Julia Morgan was a trailblazing architect who designed over seven hundred buildings in California, including Hearst Castle, Mills College, and Asilomar Conference Grounds. She was the first woman to pass the entrance exam in architecture for the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts and the first licensed woman architect in California. She was also a pioneer in women's education and women's organizations.
