May 25, 2020 · Every day she visited the tombs of Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth in the Imperial Crypt at the Capuchin Church in Vienna. Katharina Schratt died on April 17, 1940, at the age of 86. She was buried at Hietzing Cemetery (link in German) in Vienna, Austria, adjacent to Schönbrunn Palace.
Katharina Schratt. * 11. Sep 1853, † 17. Apr 1940. From 1883 to 1900 Katharina Schratt was a member of the ensemble at the Vienna Court Theatre, where she achieved great popularity with audiences. Awarded the honorary title of Court Actress in 1887, in 1893 she was made a lifelong member of the Palace Theatre.
Born in 1853 in Baden bei Wien, Katharina was a well-known theater actress. It was in the mid 1880s that Elisabeth met Katharina. She was separated from her husband at that time. And we are told that it was Elisabeth who was the driving force promoting the close relationship between Katharina and Franz Joseph.
