Establishment of the City. White settlers began to arrive in the 1850s. As Territorial Govern Isaac Stevens pushed treaties to remove Indigenous peoples from their lands, conflicts arose that led to the Seattle Indian Wars in 1855. A new treaty in 1857 established the Muckleshoot Indian Reservation in the upper White River area of King County.
