The inscription is approximately 15 m high by 25 m wide, and 100 m up a limestone cliff from an ancient road connecting the capitals of Babylonia and Media (Babylon and Ecbatana). It is extremely inaccessible as the mountainside was removed to make the inscription more visible after its completion.

Kermanshah or Kermashan (Persian: کرمانشاه, Kermānshāh; Kurdish: کرماشان, Kirmaşan), is the capital city of Kermanshah Province, in Iran, in Iranian Kurdistan. Kermanshah is the largest Kurdish city in Iran. The city is 525 km from Tehran in the western part of Iran and it is about 120 km from the border of in Iraq.
The capital of the western Iranian province is Kermanshah, historically known as Bakhtaran. The city is located on the historic caravan route between the Mediterranean Sea and Central Asia and is located in the lush valley of the Qareh River. Bahram IV of the Sasanian dynasty established it in the fourth century CE.
Kermanshah consists of 5 parts, ”Bilor”, ”Firuzabad”, ”Kozran”, ”Mahidasht”, ”Markazi“, 4 cities and 13 rural districts. Kermanshah is the 9th biggest city, the second royal Sassanid accomodation, one of the tourism cities with natural, historical and cultural attraction of Iran.
