Following the world-renowned, sensational Kon-Tiki expedition of 1947, the Kon-Tiki Museum was established in Oslo. Everyone wanted to see the primitive Kon-Tiki raft constructed after ancient models, and nearly 20 million people have visited the museum since it opened its doors in 1950.
The Kon-Tiki Museum ( Norwegian: Kon-Tiki Museet) is a museum in the Bygdøy peninsula in Oslo, Norway. It houses vessels and maps from the Kon-Tiki expedition, as well as a library with about 8,000 books. [1] It was opened in a provisional building in 1949.

This was his first expedition to be captured on film, and was later awarded Academy Award for best documentary in 1951.
