Golden Globe award winner Kris Kristofferson is an American actor, singer, songwriter and musician. He is best known for the role he portrayed in the movie Alice Doesnt Live Here Anymore and A Star Is Born. He is mostly known as the singer for the song which he composed such as Me and Bobby, Sunday Morning Coming Down, For the Good Times and much more.
Born as Kristoffer Kristofferson in Brownsville, Texas on 22 July 1936 to parents, Mary Ann and Lars Henry Kristofferson. His father was a U.S. Army Air Corps officer and his grandfather was an officer in Swedish Army. He is of an American nationality and has mixed ethnicity of Swedish, English, Scottish, Irish, German and Dutch. For his schooling, he went to San Mateo High School and joined Pomona College in 1954. He used to play rugby when he was studying in college. Later on, he earned a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University and he studied at Merton College and graduated with a B.Phil in English Literature. As being born in the military family, his father wanted him to seek future in the military as well although his interest was towards entertainment field.
Kristofferson joined the army as per his fathers wish after his graduation and became the captain. Then he became a helicopter pilot after receiving flight training at Fort Rucker, Alabama. While being in the army he has won the Veteran of the Year Award in 2003. But due to his strong interest towards entertainment field, he left the army and pursue songwriting. Because of his sudden career decision, his family disowned him.
After leaving the army, the life of Kristofferson was full of struggles until he met with Johnny Cash and recorded Sunday Morning Coming Down. He was gaining name and fame through the song he composed. He won songwriter of the year at the country music award. After onwards, he signed to Epic Records in 1967 and released his single Golden Idol/killing time but the song couldnt do much. Then he signed to Monument Records as a recording artist and debuted self-entitled album Kristofferson in 1970. As a singer, he has Grammy Award for his third album Border Lord. Then he started to work on with Willie Nelson, Waylo0n Jennings, and Johnny Cash and formed the supergroup The Highwaymen. As a group, they released their first album Highwayman which gained huge success.
Besides his musical career, Kristofferson even started to appear on films equally at ease in the world of acting as well as singing. He has appeared in numerous movies including Blume in Love, Alice Doesnt Live Here Anymore, A Star Is Born, Hangover Street and much more. He had won Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in the film A Star Is Born. His success in his career has paid him well financially making him gain a net worth estimated of $ 80 million.
