The Chicago Federation of Labor (CFL) is an umbrella organization for unions in Chicago, Illinois, USA. It is a subordinate body of the AFL–CIO, and as of 2011 has about 320 affiliated member unions representing half a million union members in Cook County.

First organized as the General Trades Assembly in 1864 and later the Trades Council and Trades and Labor Assembly, the Chicago Federation of Labor received its charter from the American Federation of Labor on November 9, 1896.
ABOUT US. The Chicago Federation of Labor (CFL) is the umbrella organization for Chicago and Cook County’s labor unions. With our 300 affiliate unions, we fight every day to give workers the voice, respect, and dignity they deserve in the workplace.
The Chicago Federation of Labor is the central labor council of the AFL-CIO. We represent over 300 local unions with jurisdiction in Cook County. These unions collectively represent approximately 500,000 working men and women employed in virtually every industry and trade in our area.
