Sep 8, 1995 · "Last of the Dogmen" is a robust movie with a lot of energy and heart, but something is missing, and I think it's a sufficient quantity of romance, legend and myth. Somehow, when Gates and Sloan discover the lost tribe, the moment doesn't resonate as it should.

8/10. A great modern times western. dstuller 23 May 2000. This movie reminds me a lot of "Lost Horizon". The scenery is beautiful and anyone that's ever been up in that area can attest to it. It's both a chick flick and a guy's movie because of the great mix of emotion, excitement and action.

Critical reviews were mixed to positive, though the film was a box office disappointment. Plot. Distraught but skillful bounty hunter Lewis Gates is accompanied by his horse and faithful companion Zip, an Australian cattle dog.
The final moments of the movie "Last of the Dogman" is about the most feel-good, without being too schmaltzy, ending I've even seen in that Gates together with Diane and Zip, who was almost killed by a Cheyenne arrow, ended up being together in Dogman Country.
