Warning: Full spoilers from the final Late Show with David Letterman follow.

After 33 active years and over 6,000 broadcasts, David Letterman has retired from the Late Show and television. Over the last couple weeks, the late-night host has seen some big names visit one last time, including Bill Clinton, Howard Stern, Julia Roberts, George Clooney, Tom Hanks and Oprah Winfrey. It's been an emotional ride for many, even tear-filled for some. Tonight, however, marked Dave's very last episode on the CBS program, which will usher in a new host, Stephen Colbert, come September.

After a well-deserved standing ovation from the audience, Dave's monologue was about what you'd expect, with plenty of retirement humor. "It's beginning to look like I'm not going to get The Tonight Show," he joked. In addition to some fun tributes from The Simpsons and Wheel of Fortune, there was also an odd "Comedy We Would Have Done Tomorrow" bit that didn't quite land, along with a tame Stephen Hawking joke -- but combined it was enough to get the ball rolling.

Of course, the linchpin of the finale was Dave's final Top 10 -- "Things I've always wanted to say to Dave" -- which featured a star-studded cavalcade of one-liners from Alec Baldwin, Barbara Walters, Steve Martin, Jerry Seinfeld, Jim Carrey, Chris Rock, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Peyton Manning, Tina Fey and, last night's guest, Bill Murray. (That must have been one helluva green room!) Ever blithe, Dave had a few jabs of his own, like poking fun at Seinfeld for his out-of-place tux: "I think Jerry may have a benefit later."

It's hard to put a number on a late-night talk show, but as series finales go, David Letterman's final episode of the Late Show was suitably heartwarming and fun (if also a tad long).
