Laura Sherwood (February 28, 1803 - May 22, 1878) was a resident of Cornwall, Connecticut, and the state of Ohio and Indiana.

Sherwood was born in Cornwall, Connecticut on February 28, 1803 as the daughter of a Congregational deacon. She was a descendant of William Bradford. At an early age, she moved with her family to Ohio, where she grew up. After her marriage in 1822, she moved to Horse Cave and Circleville, in Indiana, and then to Warsaw, Indiana. She may have felt that the Sherwood family was superior to the Bierce family. Only in 1858 did the family get title to the Warsaw farm, and it was then put in Laura's name only. In 1861, she sold it and bought a house in Warsaw, Indiana. In 1865, in effect the head of the shrinking family, she bought farm property near Elkhart, Indiana, and moved from Warsaw, Indiana, and in 1869 bought and moved into a house in Elkhart.

Sherwood married Marcus Aurelius Bierce on February 22, 1822. She subsequently bore him thirteen children, each of them given a name beginning with A. Her son, the famous writer Ambrose Bierce, felt emotionally rejected by his mother and theorized that she lacked enough love to share with so many children. He disliked her lugubrious piety, and may have even hated her.
