Today 600 people will be diagnosed with leprosy, more than 50 of these will be children. We work directly with communities in Bangladesh, India and Zimbabwe to find, treat and rehabilitate people affected by leprosy.
Diagnosis in the U.S. is often delayed because health care providers are unaware of Hansen's disease (leprosy) and its symptoms. Early diagnosis and treatment prevents nerve involvement, the hallmark of Hansen's disease (leprosy), and the disability it causes. Without nerve involvement, Hansen's disease (leprosy) would be a minor skin disease.
The Leprosy Mission is the world’s largest leprosy-focused organisation, a pioneer in our field, with over 145 years’ experience serving people affected by this disease. As a leading international Christian development charity, we work in 10 countries across Africa and Asia to defeat leprosy and transform lives.
