Released by Rhino Records in 2002, the box set was based on the success of Have a Nice Decade: The 70s Pop Culture Box, Rhino's box set covering the 1970s. Original release sets had a 3D rubber cover.
The song selection is very accurate for an '80s "pop culture" box... for the EARLY TO MID '80s. It's somewhat disappointing that discs 1 - 5 represent basically 1980 - 1984, leaving only discs 6 and 7 to account for the other HALF of the decade! I still rate this as a fantastic '80s compilation, but would like to have seen a more even distribution.

Jan 20, 2007 · This new 7-disc set of 1980s pop tunes stands head and shoulders above previous compilations for its completeness as well as its range. Too many of the previous nostalgia collections focused on tracks that received "retro" attention during the craze of the late 90s, or tried to distill the music of the 80s into specific genres such as the vague and inapt "new wave."
