Shaye was born in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Dorothy (née Katz; 1914 – 1989), a homemaker, and Max Mendle Shaye (1911 – 2004), a painter and supermarket owner affiliated with the Grosse Point Quality Food Co. in Detroit.
In the beginning of Insidious: Chapter 2, Lindsay Seim portrays a younger version of Elise Rainier, Lin Shaye's character in the Insidious films. Because Lin has such a distinct voice, she was dubbed over Lindsay's. You don't hear Lindsay 's voice at all in that movie.
