Sarah Lois Vaughan ( / vɔːn /, pronunciation respelling VAWN; March 27, 1924 – April 3, 1990) was an American jazz singer and pianist. Nicknamed "Sassy" and "The Divine One", [1] she won two Grammy Awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award, and was nominated for a total of nine Grammy Awards. [2]
