Living History Farms in Urbandale, Iowa is an interactive, 500-acre outdoor museum that tells the amazing 300+ year story of how Iowans transformed the fertile prairies of the Midwest into the most productive farmland in the world. Walking trails and tractor-drawn carts connect the 1876 Town of Walnut Hill to each of the historical farms.

Please plan at least 3–4 hours for a full farm and town experience.Arrive by 2 p.m. if you want to tour the farm sites. If you arrive later, your tour will be limited to the town.You must ride the tractor cart from the Visitor Center to the farm sites; there is no pedestrian access. Tractor carts leave about every 20 minutes.You may bring your own food and drink. You are also free to leave the museum and return later in the day.Tickets will be sold by entry time for Applefest (September 14).On all other dates, your admission ticket is good all day.Try our mobile appDownload our Visitor GuideWatch for the next tractor arrival with our Tractor TrackerFrom November through April, we offer Historic Dinners and Teas, Historic Skills Classes, Day Camps, Barnyard Readers, and holiday special events.
