Longview, city, seat (1871) of Gregg county and partly in Harrison county, eastern Texas, U.S. It is situated near the Sabine River, 65 miles (105 km) west of Shreveport, Louisiana, and is the centre of a metropolitan and industrial area that includes Marshall and Kilgore.
Longview is a city in and county seat of Gregg County, Texas, United States. Longview is located in East Texas, where Interstate 20 and U.S. highways 80 and 259 converge just north of the Sabine River. According to the 2020 U.S. census, the city had a population of 81,638.
About Downtown. Downtown Longview is home to art, murals, museums, restaurants,, shops, businesses, events, and government services. Longview was founded in 1870 when O.H. Methvin deeded 100 acres of land to create a town along the soon-to-be-constructed railroad. Those original 100 acres still serve as the center historic center of the community.
Longview is the county seat of Gregg County and is located on the U.S. Interstate 20 and U.S. Highway 80 corridor that stretches from Dallas/Fort Worth through Shreveport/Bossier City, La., Dallas lies 125 miles west of Longview, and Shreveport is 60 miles east.
