1817–1830. Rank. Major. Lord George Augusta Hill (9 December 1801 – 6 April 1879) was an Anglo-Irish military officer, politician and landowner. Hill was the posthumous son of the 2nd Marquess of Downshire and his wife Mary, Marchioness of Downshire, granddaughter of the 1st Baron Sandys.

He would go on to marry not one but two nieces of Jane Austen and become somewhat of a poster boy for Victorian Anglo-Irish landlordism in Ireland, following the publication of his book ‘Facts from Gweedore’ in 1845.
Hill, Lord George. Hill, Lord George (1801–79), landlord, was born 9 December 1801, fifth son of Arthur Hill (qv) 2nd marquess of Downshire, and his wife, Mary, daughter of Col. Martin Sandys (1729–68), brother of the baron of Ombersley. He was born three months after his father's suicide.
