Lorne Hyman Greene OC (born Lyon Himan Green; 12 February 1915 – 11 September 1987) was a Canadian actor, musician, singer and radio personality. His notable television roles include Ben Cartwright on the Western Bonanza and Commander Adama in the original science-fiction television series Battlestar Galactica and Galactica 1980 .

Lorne Greene was born on February 12, 1915, in Ottawa, Ontario, to Dora and Daniel Green, a shoemaker. His parents were Russian Jewish immigrants. Lorne was named Lyon Himan Green at his birth, but it is not known when he began using ‘Lorne’, or when he added an ‘e’ to Green.
Lorne Greene stars as Commander Adama, the leader of the last surviving human fleet in the sci-fi TV series Battlestar Galactica. The show ran from 1978 to 1979 and won two Primetime Emmys.
