"White Rabbit" is obviously a reference to Alice in Wonderland, where Alice chases a white rabbit and ends up falling down a rabbit hole into wonderland. I don't know why they called it that exactly... The white rabbit was an actual, physical rabbit, not some spooky zombie who kept appearing behind you and who you could never catch.
After the shocking revelation at the end of Walkabout, White Rabbit exposes another side of the supernatural aspect of Lost, this time focusing on the show's "hero": Jack Shepard. The story kicks off with Jack having visions of his dead father, Christian (John Terry), and following the seemingly otherworldly figure into the jungle.
