Lou Grant is an American drama television series starring Ed Asner in the title role as a newspaper editor that aired on CBS from September 20, 1977, to September 13, 1982. The third spin-off (after Rhoda and Phyllis ) of the sitcom The Mary Tyler Moore Show , Lou Grant was created by James L. Brooks , Allan Burns , and Gene Reynolds .

Lou Grant is a fictional character played by Ed Asner in two television series produced by MTM Enterprises for CBS. The first was The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970–1977), a half-hour light-hearted situation comedy in which the character was the news director at fictional television station WJM-TV in Minneapolis.

Lou is intrigued by the closed restaurant down the street, which turns out to have been the scene of the murder of the famous boxer Baby Duarte in 1947. Animal is sent in for pictures, and becomes friends with the reclusive owner, the woman who found the Baby's body 32 years ago. 8.4/10.
S1 E1 - Cophouse. September 19, 1977. 49min. ALL. After being fired as news director of a Minneapolis television station, Lou Grant heads to Los Angeles to find a new job. He looks up an old friend, Charlie Hume, managing editor of the Los Angeles Tribune, who suggests Grant take over the city desk on the newspaper.
When a member of the staff passes away, Lou does everything he can to comfort the widow which causes her to depend more on him and fall in love with him. After a small earthquake hits, Rossi interviews a scientist who claims that his insects are predicting a more serious one in the upcoming days.
