Louis-Nicolas d'Avout (French pronunciation: [lwi nikɔla davu]; 10 May 1770 – 1 June 1823), better known as Davout, 1st Prince of Eckmühl, 1st Duke of Auerstaedt, was a French military commander and Marshal of the Empire who served during both the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars.

His father died in a hunting accident when he was eight.

On January 1, 1810, he is commander-in-chief of the Army of Germany, a position which leads him to denounce Bourienne's fraudulent activities in Hamburg. Davout is then named Governor of the Hanseatic cities, and as such, is in charge of ensuring the Continental System in Northern Europe.
