Biography: life and films. L uc Besson was born in Paris in 1959. He grew up on the Mediterranean coast, in Greece and Yugoslavia, and through his parents, who gave diving lessons, he developed an intense love of the sea and marine life. His dreams of becoming a marine biologist were shattered when he had a diving accident at the age of 17.
Twenty years ago, Besson blew the doors off cinema with his 23rd-century thriller about a flying-cab driver, an alien beauty, and a quest to save the world.
