Lazy Pa (Percy Kilbride) and hard-working Ma Kettle (Marjorie Main) get set to compete in the Cape Flattery County Fair, where they are up against Birdie Hicks (Esther Dale), their old nemesis. The events include a harness race, for which Pa purchases a worn-down, out-of-shape mare named Emma, and a bread and jam contest that puts Ma's cooking skills to the test.
