The main square is a rectangular space surrounded by historic townhouses and churches. The center of the square is dominated by the Cloth Hall. This is the most happening place in Krakow with underground bars and ofcourse some amazing parties, though it is very scenic during the day and has a classic European old styled look.

To get to the main square from Wawel Castle, you just need to walk up a few blocks of a partially pedestrian cobblestone street, past perfectly pastel buildings that showcase Krakow's gorgeous architectural style.
The huge, main square of the city was laid out in accordance with the City Charter, which awarded it rights under the Law of Magdeburg in 1257. It was situated at the crossing of former trade routes forming in plan a square with each side slightly exceeding 200 m (665 ft).
The Main Market Square, popularly known as the Rynek Główny, is one place everyone is bound to visit in Krakow. Surrounding the Market are some of the city's most prized treasures like the Cloth Hall, St Mary’s Basilica, the Town Hall Tower, along with many others.
Today's Main Market Square has become a part of Cracow in 1257, when it was annexed to the city. Then it became one of the most important elements of it and remains like that to this day. The history of the Main Market Square began much earlier. In order to expierience it you shall visit the Main Market Square Undeground exhibition which is located on the side opposite to St. Mary's Church.
If you come here during other seasons, you can still enjoy the square after sunset, when it's beautifully lit up. There aren't many bus stops around this area, so your best bet is taking a train to Krakow Glowny and then walking for about 13 minutes, or getting to Krakow plac Jana Matejki bus stop, which is a few hundred metres closer.
The main square in Krakow is a place that grows on you over a few days. Krakow is not Paris, and probably never was, but then, it has been variously looted and trashed by invaders intent on destroying anything that could inspire civic pride: Mongols, Hapsburgs, Nazis, Soviets… it’s amazing that so much still remains if you look for it.
