Man Without a Star is a 1955 American Western film starring Kirk Douglas, Jeanne Crain, and Claire Trevor. Directed by King Vidor, it is based on the novel of the same name, published in 1952, by Dee Linford (1915–1971). A remake was made for television in 1968 entitled A Man Called Gannon.

Synopsis. In the 1880s, drifter Dempsey Rae watches from a railroad car as seventeen-year-old Jeff Jimson is beaten for hitching a ride on another car. After the brakeman leaves Jeff under the train wheels, Dempsey rescues him, and later that night stops the headstrong boy from intervening when a vagrant stabs the brakeman to death.
