Versatile stage and screen personality Martha Raye began her career in the 1920s while still a child. By the 1930s she was playing comic roles in various films and appearing alongside the likes of Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, and Abbott and Costello. Raye maintained an off screen singing career as a cabaret vocalist, and by the 1950s had made a successful jump to television, notably via her own THE MARTHA RAYE SHOW. As her career progressed, Raye remained popular thanks to her zany personality, however her vocal skills stayed notably in tact as well. Although confined to a wheelchair at the end of her life, Raye retained her vitality. She will also be remembered as one of the U.S.O.’s most dedicated performers. Wikipedia
